There is but one God, the Father 1 Cor 8:6

There is but one God, the Father 1 Cor 8:6

1 Cor 8:6  neither denies nor confirms the divinity of Christ. It simply reveals that God the Father and Christ are two distinct personalities.  This statement is in the context of the incarnation.

It tells us nothing either of whether Christ, in His incarnation, was also God

It does not prove either that Christ is not, in any way, truly Lord and God, neither does it prove that the Father is the only person who should be called God or Lord.

John 20:28 And Thomas answered and said to Him (Jesus),“My Lord and my God!”

What makes this passage powerful evidence for the deity of Christ is that Jesus does not correct Thomas.

He was God while upon earth, but He divested Himself of the form of God, and in its stead took the form and fashion of a man. He walked the earth as a man. For our sakes He became poor, that we through His poverty might be made rich. He laid aside His glory and His majesty. He was God, but the glories of the form of God He for awhile relinquished…. He bore the sins of the world, and endured the penalty which rolled like a mountain upon His divine soul. He yielded up His life a sacrifice, that man should not eternally die. He died, not through being compelled to die, but by His own free will.—The Review and Herald, July 5, 1887.
