The Three Angels Messages are God’s final messages of warning to the world. These messages ensure that everyone has a chance to choose between the Kingdom of God or the beast. When the messages have reached everyone, the time of probation will close and Christ will return to punish and destroy the wicked and redeem His people.
The following will help you to understand the Three Angels Messages.
The First Angel’s Message
Rev 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
The first angel’s message is to call people to fear God and worship Him as Creator, because the judgment is in progress.
The First Angel’s Message has three central themes:
The Everlasting Gospel The everlasting Gospel is the great theme of salvation—we are saved by the blood of Christ.
JUDGMENT That judgment is presently in progress in heaven
WORSHIP GOD AS THE CREATOR This message exalts God as the Creator who made heaven and earth, the sea and the fountains of water. The Sabbath is the seal of God, which is the mark of His authority and these words appears in the Sabbath commandment which is a memorial of God’s creation. We worship God by keeping His Sabbath.
The Second Angel’s Message
Rev 14:8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
The Second Angel announcing the fall of Babylon, apply to protestant churches from 1844 onward. They fell spiritually by rejecting the truth of the first angel’s message. At that time the Protestant churches began to reject the doctrine of the Second Advent of Christ. They also began to reject the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation, as well as the recovered truth of the heavenly sanctuary, including the truth of the pre-advent judgment. Since this message follows the warning of the judgment, it was given in the last days; so therefore it cannot refer to the Roman Church alone, for that church has been in a fallen condition for many centuries.
Wine in Scripture symbolizes doctrines and teachings. Intoxicating wine represents false doctrine. The wrath of her fornication depicts the anger and intolerance of those who assimilate the wine. It makes them intolerant of truth and intolerant of those who hold to the truth.
The Third Angel’s Message
Rev 14:9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
Here is God’s answer to the events of Revelation Chapter 13 where humankind is compelled under threat of boycott, then ultimately the threat of death, to worship the beast and his image and to receive the mark of the beast.
a. All who accept Sunday observance, (worship the beast and his image) when it is enforced by law, will thereby receive the mark of the beast and receive the wrath of an angry God without mercy.
b. They shall also be tormented with fire and brimstone and burnt up in hell in the presence of Christ and the holy angels.
These saints who reject the beast and his image are distinguished by three characteristics.
1. Endurance …the patience of the saints
2. Commandment keeping …who are obedient to God
3. The faith of Jesus…
Ellen G White made the statement that justification by faith is “the third angel’s message in verity.” COR 67.2 How is this so?
Revelation 14:12 states “Here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.“
The saints will give their FULL allegiance to Christ and not the beast or his image, and through their faith, will be LIVING the ‘faith of Jesus’ and will be keeping the commandments in obedience to God as a result of their faith. They will not follow the beast and his image. Thus righteousness by faith is the crux of the third angel’s message.

Another Angel
Revelation 18:1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
This angel reinforces the three angel’s messages of Revelation 14 and proclaims:
*A gracious message of salvation.
*The final and most powerful warning given to the world. It is so strong that every person on earth is forced to choose sides in the conflict..
*The warning that “Babylon the great is fallen” repeating the second angel’s message of Revelation 14:8.
*That God’s people who are still in Babylon are to “come out of her” (vs. 4) and be not partakers of her sins and her time of punishment is at hand.
*That the churches representing Babylon the Great have “fallen,” and describes them as “the habitation of devils,” “the hold of every foul spirit” and as “a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.” They have become spiritually, morally and doctrinally corrupt and embraced the most vile sins, chosen false doctrines over pure Biblical truth and have turned to spiritualism for wisdom and advice.
*Her plagues are coming and she shall be utterly burned with fire.
