Colossians 1-15 Firstborn
Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
Colossians 1-18 KJV
the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
The word “first-born” (Greek word “prototokos”) signifies priority or preeminence as Colossians 1-18 states. In the culture of Bible times, the first-born was not necessarily the child who was born first. First-born referred not to the literal birth but to rank, authority and holding a special place. The first-born as heir possessed the inheritance and distinction.
The phrases in Colossians 1-15 & 18
“the firstborn” metaphorically expresses Christ’s sovereignty, authority or head over his creation. Scripture tells us that Christ who was begotten at his resurrection, (Acts 13-33) conquered the grave; the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. Christ the One with the “Firstborn authority” paved the way into the kingdom of God for those asleep in Him so they can have assurance and expectation in the resurrection.
