I AM he, I AM

I AM he, I AM

Jesus is Jehovah God. The great I AM

John 18:5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazaareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.

John 18:6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.

Please note that “he” is not in the original Greek and is italicized to indicate that it was supplied by the translators. Therefore, what Jesus really said here was “I AM,” therefore making it another declaration of his Godhood (see Exodus 3:14 and under John 8:58).

Jesus Christ again makes it clear He is the I AM.  The Almighty God. Merely speaking the words made those present to fall over.

                       ***************

God’s name discloses who He is and what He is like. He is thae I Am, the eternal, unchanging, self-existent one, infinite and glorious in every way, and above and beyond all created things. He is God.

When Jesus applies the title “I Am” to himself, he claims to be God (John 8:58). Not a helper to God or a great teacher, but the divine, eternal, pre-existent, self existent infinite Being. Christ is Israel’s God. Christ is greater than Moses because he is the God of Moses. He has life in himself and he can give life to us.

The Jews knew taking on this title was making such a claim, which is why they immediately pick up stones to kill him (8:59).

                          ,****************.

John 8:24 KJV – 24 I (Jesus speaking) said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

Please note that “he” is not in the original Greek and is italicized to indicate that it was supplied by the translators.

Therefore, what Jesus really said here was “I AM,” therefore making it another declaration of his Godhood that he is a divine, eternal, pre-existent, infinite, perfect Being. Christ is Israel’s God. See Exodus 3:14 and under John 8:58).

Thus the correct translation of Jesus’ words.

John 8:24 KJV – 24   I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I AM, ye shall die in your sins.

Likewise in John 8:28, “Whenever you might lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I AM.”

John 8:56-59 KJV

Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad

57] Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

58] Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

59] Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

The violent response of the Jews to Jesus’ “I AM” statement indicates they clearly understood what He was declaring—that He was the eternal God  (Yahweh) incarnate. Jesus was equating Himself with the “I AM” title God gave Himself in Exodus 3:14.

                             *************.

It was Christ who from the bush on Mount Horeb spoke to Moses saying, “I AM THAT I AM: Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.” This was the pledge of Israel’s deliverance. So when He came “in the likeness of men,” He declared Himself the I AM. The Child of Bethlehem, the meek and lowly Saviour, is God “manifest in the flesh.” 1 Timothy 3:16. 42  . FLB 47.5

               ********************

John 8:28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he,

Take note that the “he” is not in the original Greek and is in italics to indicate that it was supplied by the translators.

Thus, what Jesus really said here was “I AM,” hence making it another affirmation. that He is God. (see Exodus 3:14 and John 8:58).

Therefore the correct translation is:

John 8:28, “Whenever you might lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I AM.”

Jesus Christ again makes it evident that He is the I AM.  The God of scripture.
